Aamir Khan reflects on life after divorce and personal struggles

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has in the past openly narrated of a tormented period in his life following his break-up from his first wife, Reena Dutta. In an interview with Instant Bollywood, he owned up to locking himself away for over a year, suffering depression and resorting to booze.

Reflecting on the traumatic episode, Aamir khan revealed, “When Reena and I split up first, I mourned for nearly 2-3 years.”. In between, I wasn’t working or writing any scripts. I was at home, and for almost 1.5 years, I consumed lots of alcohol.” Aamir, who had considered himself a teetotaler before the break-up, noted the drastic change in his habit. “I didn’t drink at all to drinking an entire bottle within a day.”. I was like Devdas, trying to commit suicide,” he admitted, gazing back over the depths of his depression.

He insisted that one had to learn to accept one’s losses, explaining, “You have to recognize how enormous it was to you. Remember that which was yours is no longer there and treasure how precious it was while it was part of your life.”

Aamir and Reena Dutta were married in 1986 and have two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. They divorced in 2002. Aamir married Kiran Rao in 2005, but they broke up in 2021 after 15 years of marriage, having a son, Azad, via surrogacy.

Aamir introduced his new partner, Gauri Spratt, to his guests recently during a pre-birthday celebration and declared that he and the couple had dated for 18 months. Aamir’s experience with the media marked a new chapter in Aamir’s personal life since he still struggles with the in and outs of relationships and growth.
