Aditi Rao Hydari comes out in support of Sharmin Segal amid online trolling.
Actor Sharmin Segal faces backlash online over her performance as Alamzeb in the Netflix series ‘Heeramandi.’ In her defense, co-star Aditi Rao Hydari has now criticized the ‘mean’ trolls targeting Segal.
In an interview, Hydari, who played Bibbojaan in the period drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, said people are entitled to their opinions but should express them respectfully. “It has gotten very mean, and it’s not fair. We should be there for each other,” she remarked.
Segal, Bhansali’s niece, has borne the brunt of abuse, with some alleging nepotism over her underplaying the role. However, Hydari called out picking on people and urged dealing with criticism positively.
Set in pre-partition Lahore’s red light district of Heera Mandi, the series featured the intersecting stories of courtesans, Nawabs, and British officers amidst colonial rule in the 1920s-40s.
While reception to the ambitious project has been mixed, Hydari’s comments support her co-star’s battle against ruthless online trolling. The actress emphasized kindness and a respectful understanding of different perspectives.
