Nampally court has given much required relief to actor Allu Arjun in the Sandhya Theatre stampede case. Upon request from his counsel, the court has relaxed the bail conditions, with a waiver on conditions binding Arjun to report at the Chikkadapally police station every Sunday.
The exemption was granted following apprehensions over his safety, along with permission for traveling abroad. The decision was reached just one day before he was supposed to report once more to the police station, having already done so once since the ruling in obedience to the court’s decision.
Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13 from his Jubilee Hills residence. Though the Nampally court had granted a 14-day remand, he got a four-week interim bail from the High Court and came out of Chanchalaguda Central Jail on December 14. The actor had also received criticism from Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the local police after the incident.
On January 3, the Nampally court granted Arjun regular bail against two sureties of ₹50,000 each, with conditions including weekly check-ins at the police station and restrictions on international travel.
The stampede incident happened on December 4 at the premiere of Arjun’s latest film, “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. A sea of fans trying to catch a glimpse of the actor resulted in the death of a woman and left her young son in critical condition.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s family, police arrested Arjun, theatre management, and several security personnel. It also has clarified that no case is made out to arrest the film’s producers-Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni –during the investigation.
