After a case was filed against Ektaa Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, on the grounds of showing obscene scenes involving minor girls, a clarification has been issued from the camp of Ektaa Kapoor’s ALTBalaji Telefilms. The statement says that neither Shobha nor Ektaa is involved in the company’s day-to-day operations.
The case against them concerns an episode of Season 6 of the web series Gandi Baat, which streamed on ALTBalaji from February to April 2021. The episode has since been removed from the platform. The complaint also mentions insults to the Holy figures, including the inclusion of cigarette advertisements in the series, which the complainant cites as hurting their sentiments.
In the statement, ALTBalaji reiterated its adherence to all applicable laws, including the POCSO Act, and dismissed any claims regarding engaging minors. “Concerning various media reports regarding the web series Gandi Baat, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws,” the statement read.
It also reiterated that neither Shobha nor Ektaa Kapoor is involved in the company’s day-to-day affairs, which are handled by “independent teams” of professionals for content strategy. The Company said it was “very confident” in the judiciary and was fully cooperating with investigations. Due to the subjustice nature of the case, more comments were not offered. Mumbai Police, according to reports, will summon Ektaa and Shobha Kapoor for interrogation on October 24.
