Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik believes item songs can be utilized to further a film’s narrative when done sensitively.
In an interview, Kaushik opened up about the creative process behind the item number ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ featuring Tamannaah Bhatia.
He stated such entertaining additions are par for the course in commercial films but the content must be appropriate.
Kaushik briefed the music team to steer clear of vulgarity as the film aims to be politically correct when required.
“The song had to complement the story without compromising on quality or respect. Lyrics don’t need to be indecent for item songs,” he elaborated.
The director said he constantly strived to imbibe meaningful perspectives and avoid objectification of women through his cinematic works.
Having grown amongst sisters, Kaushik is a firm believer in displaying women’s struggles sensitively without normalizing issues.
Through ‘Aaj Ki Raat’, the filmmaker tried presenting the narrative forward in an entertaining yet thoughtful manner respecting diverse audiences.
