Fresh off a critically good performance in Maria, Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie sets course for her next role. According to Deadline, Jolie will star in the high-fashion drama Stitches by French filmmaker Alice Winocour, due to start filming in Paris.
Plot details are, for the moment, kept under wraps, but Stitches will enter the glamorous-cum- cutthroat world of high fashion primarily based in the French capital. The film will shoot in both French and English, as with Winocour’s last film, Proxima, which was critically praised for its portrayal of an astronaut trying to balance career and motherhood.
The success in Paris Memories marked the second collaboration between Winocour and Pathe Films. The film had its world premiere in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight section, where lead Virginie Efira won a Cesar Award.
Stitches is the latest role for Jolie after she finished the highly anticipated biographical film Maria, in which she plays the titular, legendary opera singer Maria Callas. Helmed by Pablo Larrain, Maria was produced by Fremantle, Apartment, and Netflix.
Besides Maria, Jolie directed another film, Without Blood, a Western-inspired drama that also premiered at TIFF. The latter film stars Salma Hayek and Demian Bichir in the leading roles and follows the story of a woman who searches for justice after her family was brutally murdered, using the Alessandro Baricco novel as an inspiration.
With the build-up of anticipation for Stitches, the film will most likely demonstrate just how ruthless the fashion world is, using the city of lights as a dazzling backdrop. From the production house CG Cinema, belonging to Charles Gillibert, Stitches is expected to have an ensemble cast, which raises anticipation another notch.
