Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, better known as The Rebel Kid, has returned with impressive new posts on Instagram after the “India’s Got Latent” controversy. She talked about the threats and harassments she received in recent weeks on Tuesday and shared a strong message that was appreciated by many.
Her comeback to Instagram after included a starkly advisory warning: “Trigger warning: This post contains mentions of acid attacks, rape threats, and death threats.” Along with it, Apoorva uploaded a series of screenshots of abusive mails received by her, captioning the post, “And that’s not even 1%.” In yet another post, she emphasized her resilience with the words, “Don’t take away the story from the storyteller,” and chose not to caption it.
Her supporters have come back with an uproar of encouragement. One cried out, “COME BACK. We don’t deserve the story, but you deserve the love.” Another wrote, “My queen, you totally got this. You are such a strong girl!!” Most were appalled that she was being trolled for standing up for herself, with one saying, “They wanted you quiet. It’s time that you give them a big Roar!”
Earlier, Apoorva, who had three million Instagram followers, went to the radical extent of erasing all the posts she has ever done and unfollowing everyone on the platform.
Controversy erupted after she appeared on Samay Raina’s show “India’s Got Latent” last February, wherein Ranveer Allahbadia had made vulgar remarks related to parents and sex. The show faced sharp criticism, and complaints were lodged by several in Mumbai against Apoorva, Allahbadia, and Raina.
She was charged with having made an objectionable remark on the show and was called before the Mumbai police. The National Commission for Women also stepped in, calling in the individuals involved due to the offensive remarks that had been uttered on the show.
