Anushka Shetty opens up about living with rare laughing conditions.
Acclaimed Telugu actor Anushka Shetty has revealed battling an uncommon disorder that induces uncontrollable laughter. In an older interview accessed by Indiaglitz, Shetty said she suffers from episodes where laughter persists for 15-20 minutes.
The condition is termed pseudobulbar affect medically. Neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar explained its symptoms include sudden, frequent laughing or crying not matching the situation. Patients feel embarrassed due to disproportionate emotional response.
According to Dr Kumar, the rare ailment can stem from neurological issues like motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, or brain injuries. However, in many cases, no clear cause is found. It is believed an imbalance in neurotransmitters affects brain pathways regulating emotions.
Shetty recalled situations on sets where her laughter spells halted shoots. While comedy scenes especially test her condition, the Baahubali star candidly spoke about navigating daily life with the disorder.
Her revelation has shone a light on the pseudobulbar effect. Experts say improved awareness can help patients receive timely diagnosis to better manage a condition often dismissed as merely psychiatric.
