Bollywood star Rajkummar Rao speaks on beauty pressure

Recently, in an interview, Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao busted the myth and stressed the importance of the cosmetic industry and its growing monopoly to maintain the beauty craze amongst actors.

Rao frankly admitted, ‘Yes, it is true. The cosmetic business has been marketed nicely not only in the business circle but has been propagated in society whether we want to accept it or not. Everybody wants to become a ‘poster boy or girl,’ and there is this concept of ‘beauty’ as people understand it.

The actor went on to describe how this has reduced people into objects and created a situation where everyone wants to achieve the ideal look. ”You want to conform to that because that is what gets the love, and you get to feel good about yourself,” he continued.

Rao was swift to dodge the speculation that he has also subjected himself to the knife; he said, “As for cosmetic surgery, I haven’t done any, in case you are thinking. ”

Weeping over voluptuous women and keeping a close check on female actors’ figures is not exclusive to Rao, as he noted that the pressure to keep the body thin remains ever-present for male actors as well.

‘It’s the same,’ he said, pointing out that there is no difference when it comes to objectification of actors even in ordinary social contexts. ‘Maybe it’s not so bad that they discuss your chappals, but recently, someone did discuss it with me,’ he emphasized.

Rao’s remarks shed some light on what Bollywood actors have to endure in the industry and how obsessed Indian society is with beauty standards.
