Kiran Rao breaks silence, dismisses long-standing rumors of being ‘other woman’ in Aamir-Reena marriage

Filmmaker Kiran Rao sets the record straight on her relationship with Aamir Khan.

Kiran Rao, a noted filmmaker, has recently opened up about the true timeline of her relationship with superstar Aamir Khan. In an interview, she stated that contrary to popular belief, their romance did not begin on the sets of the 2001 film Lagaan, as is widely speculated.

Rao revealed she connected with Khan in 2004 while working on Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades, while Aamir was occupied with Mangal Pandey—The Rising. She wished to put to rest the incorrect notion among many that their story started during Lagaan.

The director further discussed how counselling was pivotal after her wedding to Khan. Khan was previously married to producer Reena Dutta, with whom he has two children—Ira and Junaid. She mentioned that with Khan’s familial responsibilities, counselling enabled an impartial platform to address each other’s needs and maintain transparency.

Despite announcing separation last year after over a decade of marriage, Rao and Khan remain dedicated co-parents to their son Azad. Their professional collaboration on Rao’s recent production, Laapataa Ladies, affirms the ex-couple prioritizes cordial relations despite personal differences.

Rao’s speaking up demonstrates that clarifying inaccurate public information remains important, even as she and Aamir continue contributing individually to the film industry while co-parenting harmoniously.
