One year has elapsed since the genocide by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Israeli attack on Gaza began on 7th October as a reaction to the incursion of armed fighters from the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and other Palestinian resistance groups.
In the raid, about 1,140 people were killed, and about 240 were abducted and taken into Gaza as hostages.
In response, Israel has unleashed a relentless bombing campaign and tightened what was already a catastrophic blockade of Gaza, a land that has been under blockade since 2007.
Israeli attacks have killed at least 41,615 Palestinians living in Gaza during the past year, equivalent to one in every 55 people who live there.
At least 16,756 children have been killed, the highest number of children recorded in a single year of conflict over the past two decades. More than 17,000 children have lost one or both parents.
Despite global condemnations and pleas from international organizations and rights groups, Israel has continued an indiscriminate campaign that has sown terror among the people in Gaza and killed entire multi-generation families.
At least 97,303 people are injured in Gaza – one in 23.
Of the people injured, the World Health Organization says nearly a quarter, about 22,500, suffer life-altering injuries that are not being met with corresponding rehabilitation needs. The main driver for rehabilitation is severe limb injuries.
According to UNRWA, each day, 10 children lose either one leg or both, and the operations and amputations are carried out with little or no anesthesia because of Israel’s blockade.
