Celebrities criticize Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s medical advice on podcast

Badminton player Jwala Gutta and Grammy Award-winning music composer Ricky Kej have raised concerns over actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s recent medical advice shared on her podcast, Take 20.

Jwala questioned whether Samantha Ruth would take responsibility for any adverse effects resulting from her recommendations.

Jwala expressed her concerns on X, stating, “For a celebrity prescribing medicine to their followers, the intention to help is clear. But if the prescription fails and causes harm, will you take responsibility? Will the tagged doctor also be responsible?”

Support for Jwala’s stance quickly surfaced online. One user commented, “If something goes wrong, they can afford the best treatment, but we could be left helpless. That’s it.” Another user remarked, “Spreading pseudoscience is dangerous, regardless of good intentions.” A third added, “It’s irresponsible for influencers to prescribe medications without proper consultation.”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu faced criticism from Dr. Abby Philips, known as The Liver Doc on social media, who labeled her a “health and science illiterate” for promoting alternative health treatments.

Samantha, who has been open about her struggle with Myositis, had recently shared the purported benefits of hydrogen peroxide nebulization. Dr. Philips, a hepatologist with over 250,000 followers on X, accused her of spreading misinformation.

In response, Samantha clarified that her post was not a paid endorsement and promised to be more cautious in the future. “It would have been kinder if he hadn’t used such provocative language, especially suggesting that I should be imprisoned. But I suppose that comes with being a celebrity,” she wrote.
