Producers finally saw the potential in Deepika Padukone for Imtiaz Ali’s romantic drama ‘Love Aaj Kal’, which was released in 2009, though there was quite a fuss about it.
Kareena Kapoor, an actress known to be in a relationship with Saif Ali Khan, the hero of the movie at that time, came up and bluntly told producers that she had wanted the role, but she was not given it.
Once, during an award show, Kareena said something that was not good, and Imtiaz Ali was extremely irritated and upset. According to Imtiaz, flattery is something that one cannot pinpoint; it was not a happy feeling when Kareena went public with what she said.
Deepika rubbished Kareena’s requirement to act in the movie and noted that she does not have to have her boyfriend inside a picture every time, depicting, “I don’t know, is it necessary that every film I do has to have my boyfriend in it? I think that is absurd. ” She supported the director’s option, stating that Imtiaz was only interested in working with her.
Though Saif supported the proposal of approaching Kareena, he respected Imtiaz’s decision whole and sole as a director’s actor. He said: “When working and personal issues are interchanged, it is difficult to definitely feel about things. ”
The controversy perpetrated by the casting of the movie ‘Love Aaj Kal’ brought into light how issues of intertwinement between the personal and the professional may complicate the entertainment business.
