Actor Dhanush has filed a civil suit against actress Nayanthara for allegedly misusing visuals of the movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary. The film, produced by Dhanush, has been the point of contention for the actor, as per a report by The Hindu.
The suit was filed in the Madras High Court against Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Sivan. His production house, Wunderbar Films Private Limited, has sought action against Nayanthara and Vignesh, as well as their production venture, Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, which produced the documentary titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The suit contends that some visuals of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan were used without prior permission in the Netflix docudrama series. The production house has also moved the High Court to permit it to sue Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, which has been making investments in Netflix’s content. According to reports, the court is said to ask Nayanthara to respond to the notice at the next hearing.
The lawsuit comes after a public letter from Nayanthara, where she said Dhanush did not grant permission to use the footage of the film in her documentary. She also added that she edited the documentary herself and denied using any footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. However, the legal notice sent by Dhanush had sought ₹10 crore over what he termed as the “unlawful usage” of “three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage” of the movie. Notably, both actors were spotted at a wedding in Chennai last week, where they noticeably avoided each other. Photos of them seated in the same row went viral on social media. The film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, released in 2015, stars Nayanthara and was directed by Vignesh Sivan; their romantic relationship began on set.
