Superstar of Punjab, Diljit Dosanjh is enjoying the great success of his ongoing Dil-Luminati tour, he has now treated his fans to a first glimpse of his next film – Punjab ’95. The actor unveiled a set of captivating images through his Instagram; his character at different timelines of the story appeared breathtaking.
The first picture is a dramatic sight of Dosanjh in prison, eyes closed under harsh lighting, giving a feel of a lot of turmoil. The following pictures are of him outside the prison, deeply reading newspapers and documents, suggesting how high-voltage the film’s storyline will be.
The teaser for Punjab ’95 will be out on January 17, along with Kangana Ranaut’s much-talked-about directorial venture, Emergency. Both films are thematically linked with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It was on her orders that Operation Blue Star was carried out to clear the Golden Temple in Amritsar of Khalistani terrorists, a series of events that culminated in her assassination and the subsequent crackdown on Khalistani elements in Punjab during the ’95 period.
Punjab ’95 is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The picture that Dosanjh shared had some personal shots of Khalra with two children; this captured a touching glimpse of an activist’s journey.
Khalra, who served as a bank director in Amritsar during a tumultuous time, was actively investigating human rights abuses in the wake of Operation Blue Star, Indira Gandhi’s assassination, and the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. The police, granted sweeping powers, were accused of extrajudicial killings and covering up evidence of these atrocities.
It may finally see a release despite some tough barriers including a reported initial 120 cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification; it is further sweetened with Dosanjh’s rising profile worldwide and the critical need for its subject matter.
