FIR registered for deepfake video of Ranveer Singh advocating for Congress

The cyber police cell of Maharashtra state has promptly responded and lodged a First Information Report (FIR) for the updation of a ‘deepfake’ video featuring the reputed Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. In this doctored video, it appeared that Mr. Singh was addressing one of the rallies and urging the people to vote for the Congress party, as stated by the government machinery.

The complainant was Bhavnani Jugjeet Singh, who is an actor, and he also referred to the accused user as @sujata.india1st. The notices of the Court stated that a user had created and shared a doctored video breaching the original interview taken during the visit to Varanasi, where a fashion show was to be held.

On the occasion of the real interview, Singh expressed his approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to protect India’s cultural heritage and boost development.

The message in the complaint reiterated that Singh has not even once endorsed any political party and only acted subsequently at the behest of the ruling political party in the state- which indirectly makes the entire comment immensely malicious and aimed to leverage his credibility, earning the video an unlucky place in the hearts of the viewers.

FIR has been filed under mandates of Indian Penal Code that includes provisions of forgery, cheating and criticism of ethics of someone/ peoples along with the Information Technology Act.

The event comes afterwards that a growing problem over fake deep material is increased. This technology is about manipulation of the content to have a misrepresentation of individuals but they are made to say or act like things they never did.

Investigation on the same issue is currently ongoing as the police dig deep into the case to get who the culprit is.
