Mohali, Feb 28 (HT) – Music composer and producer Bunty Bains breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday evening as he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Mohali’s Sector 79.
Bains, known for his work with late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, was dining at a local restaurant when unidentified gunmen stormed in and opened fire. Showing quick reflexes, Bains managed to slip away unharmed as bullets flew through the establishment, leaving behind a trail of damage.
But Bains’ relief was short-lived. Soon after the shocking attack, he received an extortion call demanding a massive Rs 10 million ransom. Wasting no time, Bains filed a police complaint about the attack and threats.
Authorities have swung into action, with ADGP Jaskaran Singh indicating extortion as a potential motive.
CCTV footage from the restaurant shows the assailants firing wantonly, with bullet marks seen on glass windows and one bullet lodged in a wooden frame.
The threat is said to have originated from one Lucky Patial, who reportedly has links to the notorious gangs of Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha.
As police dig deeper into the high-profile case, security has been beefed up across the region to pre-empt further attacks. Bains continues to remain under police guard. The assailants, meanwhile, remain at large.
With extortion threats and brazen attacks now becoming all too common, the authorities face an uphill task of reining in such criminal activities and ensuring the safety of citizens.
