As her upcoming sports drama Mr and Mrs Mahi, featuring her opposite Rajkummar Rao, is set to release on May 31, Janhvi Kapoor got candid about the extensive preparation required to portray a cricketer in the film.
Directed by Sharan Sharma, the Dharma Productions movie sees Janhvi Kapoor take up cricket to essay an athlete realistically without dependence on VFX.
The actress said she underwent training for over two years to perfect her skills on the field under coaches Abhishek Nayar and Vikrant Iyer on the director’s insistence for authenticity.
Janhvi revealed sustaining severe injuries too – dislocating both shoulders – but praised her mentor’s vision for striving to do full justice to her character.
Recalling moments of self-doubt during the rigorous regimen that tested her physically, Janhvi said Sharma’s passion would reignite her resolve to continue perfecting her game.
While they had their share of arguments, given the challenges, she expressed fulfilment today with their teamwork in bringing life to the sports story.
Janhvi hoped audiences would appreciate their efforts and like the movie slated for release this month-end as it nears its theatrical bow.
