Kalki 2898 AD to premiere at Busan international film festival

The much-anticipated movie Kalki 2898 AD, helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker Nag Ashwin, has a stellar ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan. It is geared up to set its mark at the Busan International Film Festival. The 29th version of the festival is scheduled to run from October 2 until October 11, with the screening slotted for the 8th and 9th.

Kalki 2898 AD became one of the first Indian movies to launch its teaser at San Diego Comic-Con. The promising film is the first offering of the Kalki Cinematic Universe and is set in a dystopian future of 2898 AD, wherein the entire story would be told in now-barren Kashi. The film tells the tale of SUM80, chosen for Lord Kalki—the last avatar of Lord Vishnu—as he rises to take down the autocratic rule of Supreme Yaskin.

In August, Nag Ashwin praised Amitabh Bachchan as a very cooperative actor and described the entire shooting experience with huge CGI and green screens as challenging. Prabhas plays double roles as Bhairava, a bounty hunter, and Karna, an ancient warrior who sided with the Kauravas—Bhairava’s previous life.

It talks about Ashwatthama, a character cursed to be immortal and thus wandering on Earth for nearly six thousand years. The son of sage Dronacharya, Ashwatthama still remains steadfast as an ally to the Kauravas. Kamal Haasan essays the character of Supreme Yaskin, a totalitarian god-king ruling in a post-apocalyptic landscape.

The film also stars Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani and features special appearances by industry members S.S. Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Mrunal Thakur, Vijay Devarakonda, Saswata Chatterjee, Dulquer Salmaan, and Anna Ben.

Kalki 2898 AD has been doing really well at the box office, collecting a total of ₹1,200 crores worldwide, more than ₹330 crores of which have been collected in India itself.
