Kalki Koechlin is married to Guy Hershberg, with whom she has a daughter named Sappho. However, in being an actress, she looked back at another phase of her life when, between searching for that ultimate long-term commitment, she explored polyamorous relationships.
Recently, Kalki spoke to SCT about the complications of polyamory, stressing that monogamy is a choice that is made in consciousness, just as polyamory is. She said both relationship structures require strict boundaries and mutually accepted agreement by all parties involved.
Talking about how she can be polyamorous now that she is married and a mom, Kalki said candidly, “I don’t think I have the time for that because it is always a task to find time for your own partner. It is something that happened in my past, and that, too, requires certain rules and boundaries.”
Explaining those boundaries, she says, “It may mean not involving people from your close circle. Deep connections in a polyamorous setting can be tricky. Some stay in lasting relationships and raise children, but that was another chapter in my life.
I was younger and not yet focused on settling down, so, to be frank, it felt more like an experiment. I know people who have successfully navigated it, but I’m unsure if I could invest in a long-term arrangement.
Kalki welcomed her daughter Sappho in 2020 with her boyfriend, Guy Hershberg. They currently reside in Goa and shuttle between Mumbai and beyond for work. On the professional front, Kalki was last seen in the critically acclaimed films Goldfish and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, co-starring Ananya Panday.
