Showrunner Karan Johar marked the 23rd anniversary of K3G on Tuesday, and in a rather interesting connection with Call Me Bae, he said that if Rohan Raichand and Pooja Sharma, the characters in K3G, had a daughter, she would be the definition of Bae, and more specifically, the character being portrayed by Ananya Panday in her web series debut.
Johar said Bae is a ‘glorious Gen-Z 2. 0 derivative’ of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s iconic character Poo from Kabhi Khushi, which he described as ‘Where Poo ends, Bae takes off’. ähr Speaking at the trailer launch, Johar built Poo from light-hearted fun to emotional intensity while the same journey from fun to deeper is the journey of Bae.
“Call Me Bae” documents the life of a billionaire fashionista whose family disinherits her. It is about her wrenching attempt to change her identity as a journalist and fight stereotypes while redefining herself.
Conceived by Ishita Moitra and directed by Collin D’Cunha, it is both a comedy and an ode to mankind. Johar was quick to point out that even though it is amusing, it is also informative. He thanked the creative team for being able to make it fun without compromising on its seriousness and vice versa for it to be appealing by the populace in India and internationally.
Anupam Kher will join Vir Das and Mini Mathur for ‘Call Me Bae,’ which will be streaming on Prime Video from September 6. For his part, Johar said that Panday did great, that it is her finest work and marks a new chapter in her career.
