Kareena Kapoor Khan takes the perfect opportunity for her debut production, The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta. Having played many glamorous characters on screen, Kareena has now taken on the look of a sorrowful British cop named Jass Bhamra. After burying her young son in a shooting incident, Jass gets a new assignment: a missing Indian teenager in the town of Wycombe High.
This movie is an entirely different role from what Kareena represents in many of her movies, which makes the role de-glamorous for her. The plot explores issues of conflict between the communities and the struggle for loved ones, thus depicting the less cheerful side of life. The major cast comprises relatively unknown actors, with the exceptional appearances of celebrity chef Ranveer Brar and Brit-Asian, Ash Tandon as the color of the movie.
These gimmicks belong to the writers Aseem Arora, Raghav Raj Kakker, and Kashyap Kapoor, who devised an elaborate and reflective plot inspired by Mare of Easttown. Despite the slow pace of the movie, it is quite absorbing, and the film’s climax is well thought out; Kareena shines in the movie as a lady who is both a mother and a detective with an inner fight.
Thus, The Buckingham Murders presents viewers with a fresh perspective on the thriller genre, distinguishing it from typical Indian productions that are part of Bollywood cinema.
