Kate Winslet discusses hormone therapy and aging

Kate Winslet is using her voice to speak about how hormone therapy for increasing her libido affects her, a problem that many women of forty and fifty cannot talk about. Yesterday, in an interview on the How to Fail podcast series, the actress shared that she started testosterone replacement therapy at 48 years due to loss of libido.

“They say at times the desire can drop drastically because of thyroid or fluctuations in the hormone, testosterone,” Winslet said during the episode. She also pointed out the fact that some people do not know that women also have testosterone and that deficiency is equally bad. “Soon as it is gone, it then has to be replaced, and by doing that, it helps one to regain that sense of energy. ”

Since 2012, married to Edward Abel Smith, Winslet has unveiled some practical advice based on her own experience, stating that hormonal changes are age-related and thus out of women’s control. ‘It was not your fault’, she replied, saying that most of the time, women’s body changes in ‘abnormal’ or ‘peculiar’ ways when they reach a certain age. She advised women that they should go for check-ups if they experience hormonal imbalances since they interfere with sexual relations.

Winslet also stressed the happy side of aging and the sensibility of accepting oneself. They think that women only get ‘juicier and sexier’ with the passing of time; they are more at ease with who they are and, hence, can maneuver the world better. “Even to date, I will say to my friends, ‘You look amazing, you look great,” she said as she encouraged women.
