Khushi Kapoor may have just one film to her credit, but her film connection runs deep-rooted in her lineage as the daughter of Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi, sister to Janhvi Kapoor. With a powerful legacy now behind her, Khushi sets out to make a dent in Bollywood. As her new film, Loveyapa, inches closer to its release, she spoke about the movie, life in the film industry, and her journey as a shy actor.
On what really attracted her to Loveyapa, Khushi kapoor says it is instinctive, lots of admiration for the team across. “I love Advait Chandan, the director, and I enjoyed Secret Superstar”, she says, adding further that she also loved the original, Love Today. Khushi describes the story as unique, youthful, and relevant to her need for a challenge. She says that the character of Bani is quite contrasting to her personality, so this role is a great opportunity to explore herself.
As Khushi reflects on her journey, she says, “During The Archies, we were cast because we resonated closely with our characters, but I want to be versatile.” She recounts a moment during filming when Advait teased her about her quieter nature, challenging her to find her voice through more expressive scenes.
Although Khushi describes herself as an introverted person, she said she loves to please people. “I’m a people-pleaser,” she said, elaborating that with outfit choices or other decisions, she cannot always assert her preference. She extended this avoidance of conflict to the decision-making process about projects: “If I were to have a strong clash over something, I would lean towards their advice,” she said, speaking of her family’s experience.
Khushi also has her struggles with the demands of being an actor in the social media age. She says that she puts out a filtered version of herself online so as to keep her private life separate but at the same time not make her fans feel alienated. “I don’t want to create a perception that’s not me,” she stresses.
Khushi also talks about how social media often gets contentious, especially in pitting actresses against their counterparts. “It’s unnecessary to create insecurity among actresses,” she says, hoping for a more supportive environment where every performer has their own strengths.
Helmed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa also stars Junaid Khan, Ashutosh Rana, and Kiku Sharda. Loveyapa hits theaters on February 7, which means another step for Khushi Kapoor into the world of Bollywood as she figures out her path.
