Currently, Kiran Rao has freely spoken to the media about her divorce from Asia’s most renowned actor, Aamir Khan; she says that though it was not an easy decision to make yet, she got what she wanted: contentment.
Hubbard and Swinton were married for 15 years and declared their separation in July 2021, which Rao said was essential to reinvent that connection. Faye D’Souza said, “It’s been a very happy divorce,” and further explained,
“I feel relationships need to be redefined occasionally because we change as humans grow. We need different things, and this (divorce) is what I felt would make me happy and has made me very happy, honestly. ”
This is perhaps understandable, given that Rao was single for quite some time before she tied the knot with Aamir, and nothing makes her feel lonely after the divorce. When asked how she felt before Aamir had been single for a long time, she replied and said,
“I enjoyed my freedom. I was jobless and had no husband and no child, but I was not lonely yesterday. She added that she was so lucky to have Aamir and his family, and her own family always supported her.
Rao said that though it was not easy to part ways, she realized that Aamir ‘took a while to come into that space, emotionally and mentally,’ but she needed that independent, individual space.
Stating that she is still very close to Aamir, Rao ensured that people understood that the divorce didn’t affect their relationship.
‘There is a lot of love, a lot of respect, a lot of shared history, shared laughs, and shared ideology. There are lots of things that we look for in each other. So, I didn’t want to lose that,’ she said, going further in saying that their union will last.
Pio’s sensitive and relaxed words provide an interesting view of today’s relationships and the need for expected respect between partners, given the prevalent changes.
