In a turn few could have predicted, Liam Payne from the One Direction days will serve as a mentor and judge alongside Nicole Scherzinger in building the band, the forthcoming music competition show on Netflix. Scherzinger herself, as a former member of the PCD, was a guest judge on the X-Factor when One Direction auditioned for the show as individuals. As for the formation of the band, it was all down to her and Simon Cowell’s insistence that it needed to happen.
Staying with the contestants on the judging panel will be a celebrity judge in the person of Kelly Rowland, a member of the popular group Destiny’s Children. Pop star AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys has been confirmed as the host of the series, meaning that all of the contestants are most definitely geared with expertise in getting their music careers off the ground.
But this is not the end of the craze for these folks. According to Deadline, more guest judges are expected to be revealed as the show is to start shooting in the summer.
The title of the Netflix reality series aptly reflects its aim: to help search for the next greatest music group. Still, there are many twists and turns to get to the final lineup of people in which participants resemble viewers of such shows as Love is Blind. Participants will create their bands from individual cubic spaces with no physical interaction with the other members of their bands, save for exchanging bases, perceiving whether they blend or not, and, if yes, how they blend.
In an interview, Executive producer Cat Lawson expounded on the show, stating that Building the Band is a very daring and innovative show as producers bring singers together. He let the singers form the band by their chemistry first before anything else. Decisions are made, and the stakes are incredibly high as the aim is to create bands that are deserving of the biggest stages.
