Mallika Sherawat recalls backlash post Murder, expectations from male actors.
Actor Mallika Sherawat recently opened up about facing intense criticism after her 2004 film Murder and the societal attitudes prevalent at the time. Speaking on a podcast, she recounted her effigies being burnt and judgment over the film’s bold content.
Sherawat recalled an interview post-release where a journalist questioned if a scene made her feel ashamed. She asserted having enjoyed her work.
Addressing patriarchal norms placed on women, the actor felt shame was used to control them but society is evolving now.
In a separate interview, Sherawat had alleged top actors expected her bold onscreen persona to translate off it too.
Some called late at night, feeling her work allowed intimacy. However, she refused such assumptions clarifying her separation of professional and personal spheres.
Besides Hindi films, Sherawat has worked internationally on projects like His, Time Raiders, and Dirty Politics.
Recently seen in Vicky Kaushal‘s comedy Vicky Vidya, she analyses changing societal mindsets compared to when she started her career.
