Maria Grazia Chiuri debuts possible final dior collection at couture week

Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri presented what might be her last Dior collection on the first day of Paris Haute Couture Week, impressing the audience with a bold and innovative show. Models walked on the catwalk with striking hairstyles inspired by the Mohawk, adorned with feathers woven into braids, dressed in retro draped skirts and short crinolines, paired with intricate lace, feathers, and long fringes. The collection was distinguished by the skirts edged in lace, capes in the shape of flower petals, trapeze dresses, and coats inspired by the iconic silhouette that Yves Saint Laurent designed for Dior in 1958.

Drawing from “the creativity of past centuries,” the Spring-Summer 2025 collection aims “to disrupt the order of time,” the commentary to the show explained. The ceremony took place within the beautiful gardens of the Rodin Museum and attracted a glittering audience of guests, including former model and singer Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, American actors Pamela Anderson and Anya Taylor-Joy, and French actress Camille Cottin.

Speculation continues regarding the future of Dior, with rumors suggesting that British designer Jonathan Anderson may be poised to take over, following his absence from recent Fashion Weeks across major cities. Both Dior and Loewe fall under the umbrella of French luxury giant LVMH, further fueling the speculation.

The group is set to report its annual financial results. Industry analysts will keenly look through the numbers for a glimpse into the effects of the global downturn on the luxury business. Under Chiuri, the revenues of Dior have exploded; almost fourfold in size from the €2.7 billion realized in 2018 to over €9 billion realized in 2023. Some analysts say that it’s at risk of stagnation and needs a shake-up.

Related to this, British designer Stella McCartney unveiled that she has bought the 49 percent stake in the company held by LVMH. McCartney stated her intention to support environmental causes, and to remove leather, fur, and feathers from her collections.

Haute Couture Week opened with Schiaparelli’s traditional show “Icarus,” which draws inspiration from historical references. Models such as Kendall Jenner modeled corseted designs with structured necklines and wide hips under the ornate ceilings of the Petit Palais.

The next four days will feature 28 fashion houses, including Chanel, Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Valentino, presenting their own distinct collections, Valentino to be seen for the first time as Haute Couture under the direction of Alessandro Michele, who started at the helm in early 2024.
