Release of Pakistani film ‘Maula Jatt’ in India stalls due to court order.
The much-anticipated theatrical premiere of Pakistani action blockbuster ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India has been postponed. Distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla confirmed a court order stalled the film’s screening set for Wednesday.
Starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, the film was to be released in Punjab via rights holder Mandviwalla and Zee Studios’ international distribution.
However, an unnamed Indian ministry secured a stay against the launch until further notice, noted Mandviwalla. While expressing hope for an eventual release, he underlined the film’s quality that could make it a hit in Indian Punjab once allowed.
Announced in September amid opposition, the premiere aimed to bring Fawad Khan back to Indian audiences two years after the movie’s global success.
Bilateral conflicts saw India and Pakistan curb each other’s film exports since the 2019 Pulwama attack and reciprocal bans.
‘Maula Jatt’ was the last Pakistani movie screened in India, stalling further such cultural exchanges between the neighboring nations.
Legal barriers for now halt its homecoming to a potential new audience, though chances of a future release remain.
