Pratibha Ranta is gaining attention for her role in the film Laapata Ladies by director Kiran Rao. She originally belongs to Shimla, and this movie marks her acting debut in the television series Qurbaan Hua, which was telecasted in 2020.
In an interview recently, Pratibha opened up about current significant issues—the safety of women, feminism, and menstruation. Once, she remembered a discussion over periods during schooling with her first boyfriend.
She remembers, “I was studying at an all-girls school, and my first boyfriend was a student at one of the boys’ schools. I was his first female friend. Once, after attending a dance class, I met him and said, ‘Listen! Today, I have my period. I cannot walk much'”.
Her straightforwardness had surprised her boyfriend as, for the first time, he came across something of this sort. He began talking about biological aspects very rightfully, like in some books. Pratibha burst out laughing and said, “Yeah, I know.”
Hinging on the point of needing more frank discussions about menstruation among men, Pratibha explained that even though men know all that technically, they can only understand those things through dialogues with women who have lived through that experience. “Some things are better understood by experience,” she said.
In the same interview, Pratibha talked about the values instilled in her family, especially regarding financial independence among women. She spoke of how people from Himachal Pradesh struggled to make a mark in Mumbai, “I come from a family where women have the freedom to make their own decisions.
My grandmother was a teacher at a time when few Indian women worked. She taught students dance and was fond of reading Hindi literature. My mother is a housewife, and we also run an apple business from home.”
On the professional front, Pratibha Ranta was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The lead actors who were a part of this web series include leading names like Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal, all of whom played pivotal roles.
