Preity Zinta’s Cannes comeback sparks accent debate

This year also saw the presence of Indian beauties at the Cannes Film Festival, especially Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who exclusively wore pink extravaganza Saree after 17 years. However, her looks raised eyebrows on social networking sites.

whereby some people doubted whether the lady was actually from Nigeria or just an impersonator, which made them question her fake accent, which she demonstrated during her interaction with international media houses.

The five-foot-five-inch-tall Zinta, who is in Cannes to present the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography to cinematographer Sivan, looked elegant in her traditional Indian outfit. She completed the look with large earrings and liked to keep her hair uncovered.

Croisette saw her chatting, hugging her fans, shaking hands, and even taking photos, including selfies, with them. When questioned about her attire, Zinta said,

“My look is moderately chic with a tint of glamour; nonetheless, what can be better than a Seema Gujral saree?”

However, more controversy was created not by what Zinta said but how she said it, more specifically, the fabricated ‘Indian’ accent Critics took off their clothes and questioned why Indians mimic their fellow countrymen’s British accent when speaking to audiences across the globe.

While some fans tried to justify Zinta’s behavior, stating she has been living in the United States for a long time, others tried to justify the act, stating that this is what Colonization gives and makes people feel inferior in speaking their accent.

It may be recalled that Zinta had previously accompanied Sunny Deol to the Cannes Film Festival while promoting his film, ‘The Heroes’. Zinta is currently awaiting the start of her next Indian film, ‘Lahore 1947’, produced by Aamir Khan and featuring Sunny Deol opposite her.
