According to the sources, the police, Leela, the primary accused of the brutal murder of 29-year-old Mahalaxmi, who was chopped into pieces and kept in a refrigerator in her flat in Bengaluru, is now absconding on the border of Odisha and West Bengal.
The mutilated remains were found by Mahalaxmi’s estranged husband, Hemant, and other family members after they smelled a foul stench coming from her one-bedroom flat in Malleshwaram. Upon examination, the body was observed to have maggots, which was an unpleasant sign of events.
Preliminary findings indicate that the murder could have been committed at least 15 days before the body was discovered, which is something Mahalaxmi’s mother, Meena Rana, confirmed, stating that her daughter’s phone had been switched off as of September 2.
Law enforcement believes that it is possible that the body was mutilated at another location before it was taken to the apartment. It was during the search and operation by the police at the suspect’s house in Bengaluru; despite the search, no trace of a crime scene was obtained; apart from some blood next to the refrigerator, no other blood was spotted.
The reason for the murder is still unknown, and the police are carrying out their investigations. The suspects, including a man known only as Ashraf and others, were briefly detained while they are not suspects now. Reports suggest that Mahalaxmi had been sexually active and had even gone out on dates with several men.
Neighbors said they smelt something bad in the apartment on September 21 and called the police, adding a dog squad and forensic team. Mahalaxmi originally comes from Nepal but has lived in Nelamangala, Karnataka, for 35 years. They are natives of Bengaluru and have spent most of their lives in the city.
