Raashii Khanna Addresses Criticism for Tackling Sensitive Godhra Incident in ‘The Sabarmati Report.’
Mumbai: Raashii Khanna‘s latest film, ‘The Sabarmati Report,’ hit the theaters today, and the actress has opened up about the skepticism she faced for taking on this project, which is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 2002.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ delves into the devastating events surrounding the Sabarmati Express tragedy, a sensitive topic that many felt Khanna should have avoided, given her lack of public political stances.
“There were people who questioned, ‘You have never taken a political stance in anything till now. But you are making a film like this. Why did you do this? Are you sure of it?'” the actress revealed in a recent interview.
Khanna acknowledged that the decision to take on this project was not an easy one, as she had her own doubts initially. “For the first time, I had to think more,” she admitted, highlighting the extensive research and preparation that went into the making of the film.
“We had a script that came to us, and the research behind it was even more than the script itself because this is a susceptible topic, and it could go either way, I felt. But when we started shooting, I was confident about it,” the actress explained.
Despite the polarizing nature of the subject matter, Khanna emphasized that ‘The Sabarmati Report’ aims to serve as a tribute to the 59 individuals who lost their lives in the Godhra incident, without taking any political sides.
“It is a human angle, where 59 people lost their lives and we are only talking about them. It is a tribute to them, without taking any sides but the side of humanity,” Khanna stated.
The film also features Vikrant Massey in a pivotal role, with the actress sharing a heartwarming behind-the-scenes video of the two collaborating on set. Khanna described Massey as a “dost” (friend) who helped her with her makeup, further emphasizing the camaraderie and support within the team.
