Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar address the Australian parliament

Bollywood film star Rani Mukerji and director yesterday met the Australian Parliament before the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM). Mukerji, during the event, showed her feeling of pride for representing India and categorically mentioned her interest in working with Hugh Jackman of Hollywood and Nicole Kidman for her future films.

When delivering her speech, Mukerji emphasized the role of Indian cinema in bridging cultures. “This is really a landmark occasion in the cultural relationship between India and Australia,” she said, focusing on the prospect of cooperation. She continued by stating that Indian films, in the past, have brought families and communities together, and it is time for India and Australia to present their stories to the world through the silver screen.

Mukerji also pointed out the obsessional love Indian audience has for Australian personalities including directors Baz Luhrmann and actors Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. Hyping it, she dreamed of a movie with Shah Rukh Khan and Nicole Kidman and a musical with her and Jackman.

IFFM Awards 2024 has declared Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail the Best Film and Kartik Aaryan the Best Actor for Chandu Champion. The Critics Choice award for Best Film went to Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, and the Equality in Cinema award went to Dunki, which starred Shah Rukh Khan. For Indian Art and culture, Ram Charan was given the title of Ambassador of Indian Art and Culture, while AR Rahman was bestowed with the title of Excellence in Cinema.
