Rhea Chakraborty reflects on support from friends during jail trials

Rhea Chakraborty has encountered a lot of adversity in her personal life, especially the times that came after the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. During a Humans of Bombay interview, she explained her friends helped her family while she and her brother Showik were charged with a drug use case in connection to the investigation of Sushant’s death.

Rhea added some humor when she said her parents and friends put on weight every time she was in jail. She, for instance, said, “One of my friends, together with some others, was drinking and eating with my dad every night while we were inside.

The Girl was free and eating. When I came out, I told him, ‘But why have you put on so much weight? I was in jail, and you were feasting!’ They said, ‘We were just trying to make your parents semi-human. ’”

Grateful for the support she receives, Rhea voiced that she is grateful that her friends stand by her, including Shibani Dandekar. “Thank God for my friends? I had many fabulous girlfriends. The way some of my girlfriends supported me when it was inconvenient was astounding. I learned that one can have only one true friend in life, and that’s enough, especially when everything is against you. And I had Shibani.

For Rhea, she was charged with high-profile offenses, including abetment to suicide by Sushant’s parents. She was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020, but in January 2021, the Bombay High Court rejected all the allegations made by NCB that she provided finance in drugs and facilitated Sushant’s drug addiction.
