Samantha Ruth Prabhu said she is excited to finally see more women taking centre stage in big action movies. Naming her peers first, who have created or are going to create ripples in the action genre, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Anushka Shetty, she too joins this bandwagon with her upcoming series Citadel: Honey Bunny, by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, Samantha becomes a part of this global narrative shared by the likes of Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
In the Citadel universe, the Indian chapter stars Samantha and Varun Dhawan as spy agents Bunny and Honey. Speaking about trying this new genre in an interview with PTI, she said, “Many actresses are indulging in action is doing action, Deepika Katrina have always been there in the genre, and now Disha and Kiara are joining the bandwagon. It’s nice to see women take centre stage,” she said.
Samantha is one of the most renowned leading ladies in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. She has captured audiences with her power-packed performances in films like Ye Maaya Chesave, Eega, Neethaane En Ponvasantham, Mahanati, and Super Deluxe.
Speaking about her past work, she shared that most of the action sequences in The Family Man 2 were edited out, but she felt glad some remained. “I’m glad they kept it,” she said, adding how she always wanted to play a character that was the female version of James Bond. Citadel: Honey Bunny comes closest to her dream of playing the spy character.
“Who doesn’t want to do cool action and play spy? It’s on every actor’s dream list. James Bond is the ultimate role,” she said, adding, “The experience of shooting action was great fun.” Samantha now looks forward to collaborating with Dhawan for a comedy movie: “We will do it soon, a comedy movie.”.
The series Citadel: Honey Bunny also features the acting prowess of Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem, and Sikander Kher. It will start streaming on November 7 on Prime Video.
