In a major setback for the highly anticipated third installment of the ‘Welcome’ franchise, veteran actor Sanjay Dutt has opted out of the ‘Welcome to the Jungle project.’ Originally slated for a December 2024 release, the film faces a significant change in its ensemble cast.
According to industry sources, Dutt’s decision to step back from the film was primarily due to his ongoing battle with cancer and the impact it has had on his physical abilities. “Sanjay was very enthusiastic about the film and had even begun shooting.
Unfortunately, after completing just one day of filming in Madh Island, a few months back, he informed the director that he couldn’t continue due to health reasons following his battle with cancer and the subsequent treatments,” revealed a close insider.
The source added that Dutt’s role in the film involved a substantial amount of action sequences, which he found himself unable to perform due to the effects of his cancer treatment. With Dutt’s exit, the producers quickly brought Suniel Shetty to fill the void.
Presented by Base Industries Group and produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwallah, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is directed by Ahmed Khan and boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, and Jacqueline Fernandez, among others. The film is now set for a grand theatrical release during Christmas on 20th December 2024.
