Sanjay Leela Bhansali reflects on first meeting with Deepika Padukone

Acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone have formed one remarkable collaboration over the years, working in successful films like Ram Leela, Padmaavat, and Bajirao Mastani. Recently, Bhansali took a walk down memory lane to the time he met Deepika for the first time and swooned over the beauty that she was.

The director once told The Hollywood Reporter the first time he had visited Deepika’s home: “When I met Deepika for the first time, and she opened the door, I was frozen by the beauty of the woman. In her eyes, there was so much subtlety and fragility,” he revealed. He further described how her voice added to her appeal and just dragged him under a spell.

Bhansali said instinct played a major factor in recognizing talent: “I knew this girl would be molded and taken somewhere. It is all about how your soul connects with his.”

The two first teamed up for the 2013 film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, which co-starred Ranveer Singh, Richa Chadha, and Sharad Kelkar in pivotal roles.

She will next be seen in Singham Again with Ajay Devgn. The highly anticipated Rohit Shetty film, which will be released this Diwali, will join her already long list of credits.
