Bollywood Star Shah Rukh Khan to Receive Refund of Over Rs 9 Crore from Maharashtra Government.
In a significant development, the Maharashtra Government has decided to refund a substantial amount to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
The refund, estimated at over Rs 9 crore, is related to the conversion of the lease for Khan’s iconic sea-facing bungalow, ‘Mannat’, located in the Bandra neighborhood of Mumbai.
Back in 2019, Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan had initiated the process of converting the lease of the heritage property ‘Mannat’ to a ‘class 1 complete ownership’. As part of this process, the couple had paid a premium to the government, which has now been found to be in excess of the actual amount due.
Satish Bagal, the Resident suburban collector, confirmed the development on Saturday. He stated that the Khans had applied for a refund with the revenue authority after they discovered a tabulation error in the calculation of the premium. The refund request has now been sanctioned earlier this week.
While the exact figure paid by the Khans as the premium was not immediately confirmed, reports suggest that the amount was upwards of Rs 25 crore. However, the tabulation error resulted in an excess payment of over Rs 9 crore, which the Maharashtra Government has now agreed to refund.
‘Mannat’, Shah Rukh Khan’s sea-facing bungalow in Bandra, is one of the most recognized and iconic properties in Mumbai’s real estate landscape. The property’s conversion to freehold ownership has been a significant milestone for the Bollywood superstar and his family.
The refund of the excess premium paid by the Khans is expected to be welcomed by the actor and his fans, as it underscores the government’s commitment to addressing discrepancies and ensuring fairness in such transactions.
