Shah Rukh Khan to relocate as Mannat undergoes renovation

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic Mumbai bungalow, Mannat, has been a tourist attraction for years, with hundreds of fans daily clamoring to take selfies in front of the legendary landmark. Mannat has been home to the superstar and his family for over 25 years. But big changes are ahead as the Khans will be vacating their beloved home later this year to make way for a major renovation of the property.

Sources indicate that the renovation at Mannat is to begin in May. The refurbishments planned include the long-awaited addition of an extension, which had to be approved by the courts since the bungalow is a Grade III heritage building. Structural alterations to such buildings are required with valid permits, and since renovation is to commence soon, the family will be shifting to a new home.

The Khans will be moving to four floors of a luxury apartment building situated in the Pali Hill area of Bandra. Reports confirm that Shah Rukh Khan has secured these floors on lease from film producer Vashu Bhagnani. The agreement was finalized through Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment, collaborating with Bhagnani’s children, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshika Deshmukh, who co-own the property named Puja Casa.

The new housing complex will accommodate housing for not only the Khan family—Shah Rukh, Gauri, Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam—but also their security staff and staff and specific office space. While the apartment will not be as big as Mannat, it will be sufficient to accommodate enough space for security and staff. Rumors have it that the rent on these four floors will be ₹24 lakh a month.

Facilities have been made to ensure security and privacy to the family while they stay in the apartment complex. In a report by Business Standard, Shah Rukh has leased two duplex flats on the seventh, eighth, first, and second floors of the building for three years. Though it is not known whether the Khan family would be staying for the complete duration, sources indicate that the renovation process of Mannat would take two years, which makes this relocation at least the temporary arrangement at present.
