Shahid Kapoor shares his journey from a struggling outsider to a star.
Veteran actor Shahid Kapoor, who completed 20 years in Bollywood, considers himself an outsider despite being Pankaj Kapur’s son. In an interview on Neha Dhupia‘s chat show, Kapoor opened up about navigating the industry alone.
The actor stated that being from a non-filmy background, he had to carve his path. “People say I’m Pankaj Kapur’s son, but character actors don’t wield power like stars or big producers/directors,” he remarked.
Kapoor further shared that he purposely didn’t inform his father about signing his debut film to prove himself. “We were separated as parents, and I didn’t want any support. I told him after signing my first film on my own accord,” he disclosed.
When asked about the change over the years, Kapoor said the difference lies in getting opportunities solely based on talent today, unlike in the past.
He took pride in reaching this point through diligent work and constantly honing his craft. Kapoor emphasized the importance of learning the profession to sustain as an actor from outside the industry circles.
The actor credited his two decades in the business to his dedication to performing regardless of the struggles he faced initially while establishing his foothold.
