Speaking out for the first time, Maharaj actor Shalini Pandey, who portrayed the character of Kishori in the movie featuring Jaideep Ahlawat and Junaid Khan, has shared her views on the controversy the movie faced with regards to its direct to OTT release.
This has led to another act of banning, and on the release of ‘Maharaj’, the Gujarat High Court got a petition from the Vaishnavite Pustimargi sect expressing their displeasure with the depiction of the religion in the movie. However, the High Court later removed the stay on the movie, stating that the movie did not offend the Vaishnav Pushtimarg sect.
Recalling the controversy, Pandey said he realized the feelings that it roused and personally did feel that there was no attempt to demeasure any religion or individual: “There was nothing like that in the film. It was just that people presumed everything.”
Regarding the details of portraying Kishori, Pandey added, “The personality of Kishori is in no way related or belongs to my space of existence in any manner whatsoever. For me, the biggest understanding factor I got to live about is someone who can blindly trust or act for any or some cause.”
In the intimate, bold scene with Jaideep Ahlawat’s character, the actress revealed that it was pretty challenging and felt uncomfortable. Finally, now that the film is out for the audience, Pandey said she is glad everyone’s efforts have been rewarded.
