Sharmin Segal’s ‘Heeramandi’ performance sparks debate

Sharmin’s act as Alamzeb in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited series Heeramandi has not solely been liked by the viewers, but critics also have different opinions.

A young actress, Bhansali’s niece, recently stirred controversy for her ‘outsider’ comment regarding her co-star Sanjeeda Shaikh that went viral on social media.

Defensive to the criticism, Sharmin said that her interviews were edited and their parts mischievously twisted out of context. She has a very good rapport with Sanjeeda as well as Aditi Rao Hydari, other actresses in the serial.

Heeramandi portrays the immortal love story set before the British partition of India, a period darker and filled with political power struggles between courtesans, Nawabs, and British officers during the struggle for freedom. It stars several versatile actors and actresses at present, like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha and Farida Jalal, to name a few.

Even the most cruel critics who accused Sharmin Sultana of having an ‘expressionless looks’ in the movie had nothing to say about the challenges of depicting a complex character.

The young actress who came into Bollywood with her movie ‘Malaal’ opposite Meezaan Jafri has also assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali in some of his movies, including ‘Mary Kom’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

Since the show has successfully made it through the first season and has been officially renewed for the second season, everyone who is interested in the fate of the characters of Heeramandi will be eagerly waiting for the further actions of Sharmin, along with the further actions of the other participants.
