Shiloh Jolie drops Pitt surname, legally changes her name

Shiloh Jolie, daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has been legally granted the right to drop her father’s surname, marking a significant personal decision.

The legal process, initially delayed due to a background check, was finalized on August 19 after Shiloh fulfilled California’s name change requirements.

Shiloh, who turned 18 in May, had initially filed the petition to change her name then, and after a thorough background check and the necessary publication of her name change in the Los Angeles Times, the court approved her request.

The California law mandates that any individual seeking a name change must publish the intended change in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve the petition. This ensures transparency and allows for any objections.

Born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, she will now officially go by Shiloh Jolie, aligning her name more closely with her mother’s. The decision to change her last name is seen as a symbolic move amidst the ongoing strained relationship between her and her father.

According to a source close to Brad Pitt, the actor was aware of Shiloh’s decision and is understandably upset, as it serves as a painful reminder of his estranged relationship with his children.

This development follows a period where several of Brad and Angelina’s six children, Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Pax, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15, have distanced themselves from their father, further highlighting the ongoing familial tensions
