Sydney Sweeney has spoken about the invasive measures taken by the paparazzi, sharing her own recent experiences in an interview with Glamour magazine. The star shared how, in one brazen incident, photographers staked out outside of her Florida residence and called out to her family, promising to leave if she came outside in a bikini. “They said, ‘If you tell her just to come outside in a bikini, I’ll take pictures and then leave you alone,'” Sweeney recounted.
Sweeney also denied speculation that she would call the paparazzi to photograph her at her house: “Why would I call the paparazzi to take pictures of me at my own house when my baby cousins and family are there and I’m in my backyard?” she questioned, emphasizing how much she values her privacy.
Sweeney also talked about the heinous events wherein photographers hid in kayaks around her house, waiting hours for shots. “I have pictures of these guys in kayaks hiding in bushes in the ocean. They got there at 8 AM and wouldn’t leave until 4 PM. I should be able to be in my home and feel comfortable and safe,” she said.
The actress was most worried about her safety, with each location made public possibly putting her in grave danger. “It’s the moment those pictures leave that’s when my real safety is in jeopardy. Now everyone knows where I am. Now, some boats pass by, and I hear them say, ‘This is Sydney Sweeney’s house.’ It becomes a star tour in my front yard,” she said.
Along with talking about the paparazzi pressures, Sweeney also talked about her relationship with 40-year-old Jonathan, whom she has been dating since 2018 and with whom she got engaged last year. She had also taken the opportunity to squash rumors that he pays to keep their relationship going: “I’m a very successful, independent woman who’s worked hard.
I’ve accomplished and bought everything myself and provided for myself and my family.” Sweeney explained the nature of their relationship: “You can be in a healthy relationship with someone and be very successful without needing the man. We’re teammates. We’re in it together. And we want to see each other succeed.”
