The Broken News sequel: Cast Reacts to Nora Fatehi’s feminism controversy

Broken News’ cast discusses Nora Fatehi’s views on feminism.

Ahead of the second season premiere, cast members of the popular web series Broken News engaged in a conversation around recent comments on feminism made by actress Nora Fatehi.

Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar, who play journalists in the ZEE5 show slated for a May 3 release, expressed their take on defining the movement to YouTuber Janice Sequeria.

Pilgaonkar clarified that feminism is about equality, not man-bashing, as some perceive it. She believes many identify as feminists without using the label due to negative connotations.

With her co-star, Ahlawat voiced that we need not put down either gender for the empower of any. Bendre noted that being reduced to criticism of men makes many uncomfortable, including herself.

While all want equal rights, not everyone wishes to be viewed as ‘great,’ she said, adding an imbalance in scales creates societal problems on both ends.

Their insightful views came in the context of Fatehi having triggered debate by arguing feminism has ‘ruined society’ and females/males must stick to separate roles, disregarding equality in sentimental spheres, too.

As the cast engages audiences ahead of Season 2, a discussion around the complex issue highlighted their characters’ journalistic acumen.
