Triptii Dimri addresses Animal criticism at Mumbai conclave

Triptii Dimri, with her impressive film slate this year, recently spoke out about the criticism regarding her role in the 2023 film Animal, where she played a character named Zoya. She finally spoke about the backlash at the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2024:

“I would play Zoya’s character exactly the same way. As human beings, we all have different shades-good, bad, and even ugly. Films allow us to look into those aspects. Acting allows you to feel everything from the gamut of emotions, and actors are fortunate to live through so many different scenarios in one lifetime.”

However, with a box office hit, Animal drew huge criticism due to the demonstration of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and extreme violence. Dimri reflected on her intention to be out of her comfort zone and elaborated,

“With Bulbbul and Qala, I found that comfort, and even though I love drama, those sets always charge me up. But with Animal, things were different; it was a challenge. I think choosing roles that challenge you is very important as an actor. Every new role is daunting and exciting.”

Continuing further, she expressed her interest in the character of Zoya, who was both brave and innocent.

“That duality intrigued me; I always search for roles that provide something unique.”

By Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director of Arjun Reddy, the film featured an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. Having locked horns with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur at the box office, the film became a commercial success.
