An incident involving Sana from the popular South Korean girl group TWICE has made fans extremely angry, and the topic of fan behavior and security within K-pop events has come into question. A fan meeting was held to celebrate the group’s anniversary, during which footage emerged of member Sana wading through a crowd of ecstatic supporters. In the video, an overexcited fan looked eager to get her attention for a high-five but hit her shoulder with considerable force.
Although it was well-intentioned, that moment drew swift criticism online. Fans vented their anger online at both the fan for invading Sana’s personal space and the security personnel over a failure to intervene.
As the video spread like wildfire across social media, demands for accountability grew loud. Many fans asked for stricter security to protect the idols in such scenarios. One user tweeted, “Please investigate who hit Sana and ensure security arrives faster. Give her personal space.
Others chimed in along the same lines, as comments mentioned how inappropriate it was of the fan. “This is not a hi-touch event, and Sana was looking in another direction. Keep your hands to yourself, wave but don’t touch them,” a fan commented. Another fan added, “Could’ve just high-fived her normally, but it looked more like hitting her hand.”
Frustration mounted further as fans questioned how aggressive the fan was being. “I really can’t believe that he almost punched her! He touched her without permission, and the security guards did nothing,” one supporter said.
Although idols often welcome interactions with their fans, this has become a disturbing example of a lack of regard for personal space. Supporters hope the resolution will make Sana safe and respected in all future engagements.
