Earlier this year, Urvashi shared some interesting facts about the shooting of the music video, which gave some insight into the beauty standards of Bollywood.
In the podcast with Hindi Rush, Urvashi revealed that Honey Singh insisted that she tan her skin tone by making it 10 shades darker for the video. When asked whether directors often asked her to alter her appearance, she said some directors came at her with requests to tone down her skin tone.
Urvashi replied that up until now, the agencies have only asked to darken the skin. This also applies to South Indian cinema and Indian Bollywood movies. Specifically, for the film I am in the middle of shooting, they have used darker makeup on me. It doesn’t have to be a reinvention; sometimes, the character requires Bachchan’s character.
People, and mainly directors, are very passionate about what they do; they have a vision, and we have to fit it. Believe me, I used to hear constantly, ‘You are very fair; Try to darken your skin a little.’ Make it 10 shades darker.’”
Quieting down while pointing at “Love Dose,” she continued, “Honey Singh told me to make it 10 shades darker.” The last time I went in to get it retouched by my makeup artist, who is from the Caribbean, she opened the whole palette and picked the darkest tone there was.”
Urvashi also observed it as so and said, “He (Honey Singh) likes dark colors; they all look better and sexier.” She said that such requests are common among filmmakers in the industry before ending her speech.
