Urvashi Rautela trolled for attempting Tamil at IIFA 2024

Urvashi Rautela is the target of online ire after a video surfaced of her trying to speak Tamil at the IIFA 2024 event in Abu Dhabi. The awards event celebrated success in South Indian and Hindi cinema, respectively, and Rautela was one of the guest attendees. When a cameraman asked her to speak in Tamil during a photocall, she obliged.

But all that came out was nonsensical sounds of some sort, and across the board, many began to question if she was telling the truth. It quickly went into overdrive on social media, with users on all major platforms voicing their disappointment: “Where is the Tamil??”, “That is not Tamil; she is just pretending”, and some accused her of making fun of the language. “Is she making fun of Tamil people? She can’t even speak English w/o her fake accent.”

This is not the first time she has been in the news; recently, she made headlines when she claimed that Bollywood stars are on dating apps, including Aditya Roy Kapur and Hrithik Roshan. Recently, in an interaction with Hauterrfly, she took names of celebrities whose profiles she had come across on Raya, a dating app meant for celebrities. “I’m on Raya, but that’s only for friends, not for dating,” she clarified. Rautela said, “I saw Aditya Roy Kapur and many other celebrities there.”

She jokingly said, “I already have their numbers. Why would I swipe right? We can talk if I have free time and they do too.”
